Kenneth "Butch" Lilienthal



Kenneth "Butch" Lilienthal, 69, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Saturday January 9th at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo officiated. Burial of ashes will be April 10 in the Chapman Cemetery.

Mr. Lilienthal was born Sept. 23, 1940 at Laramie, Wyoming to Ray and Pauline (May) Lilienthal.

He married Dorothy Jean Husmann on October 14, 1961, in Chapman, Nebraska.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherri Lilienthal and friend Mark Sheets and Sondra and Neal Schroeder, all of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Kim Lilienthal of Grand Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Waneta Lilienthal of Greeley, Colo.

He is also survived by four grandchildren: Tessa and Tjaden Schroeder and Wyatt and Collin Lilienthal.

Other survivors include nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Butch was raised at Father Flanagan's Boys Town in Omaha until his sophomore year. He then went to live with an aunt and uncle in Chapman and graduated from Grand Island Senior High, Class of 1959.

Following their marriage, the couple resided in Greeley, Colo, moving to Chapman and then a final move to Grand Island in 1973. Butch was employed by Redman's, then by New Holland from which he retired in 1999, after 32 years of service.

Butch was a member of the Platt-Duetsche and VFW Sons of the Legion. He played bass guitar in his band, The G.I. Country Express, with his daughter, Sherrie , as lead singer. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, camping and especially his family and friends. Butch loved life and his memory will be treasured by many.

Memorials are suggested to the National Niemann-Pick Diesease Foundation for Dementia or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
